Badly broken down, severely weakened teeth need to be strengthened and protected.  The porcelain crown is like new ‘enamel’ for the tooth and is bonded securely in place after the weak core of the tooth’s been rebuilt.  It’s not indestructible, but does protect the tooth very well and is biologically very sound.  Gums thrive next to this type of crown.
